In many ways it’s a great time to grow a recruitment business. The UK economy demonstrated exceptional growth compared to other developed countries last year and hiring intentions continue to rise (check out our latest monthly recruitment landscape infographic). However, if your starting from scratch the task at hand can seem a little if not very daunting. Here’s our top tips for keeping it simple:
- GOALS – No we don’t mean the seat gripping, hair standing England vs Germany 2010 kind! We’re talking about business missions, the ‘where do you want to be in 1 year, 3 years, 5 years?’. You may have one goal or you may have several, however it is important to know and even write down what you are aiming towards in order to grow and develop. Remember to keep it realistic, setting the bar too high will only leave you feeling unaccomplished.
- BRAND BUILDING – Your brand is the heart and soul of a company. Without it, you are merely another drop in the ocean. So it’s extrememly important to consider what your key messaging is, who your target audience is and their likes/dislikes while also remaining current. Once you have this information you can then start to create a brand personality – let the fun begin!
- NURTURE– Now don’t go hugging strangers in the street but do keep your current contacts as close to you as possible and nurture them along the way. Although it is important to network and meet new faces, it is equally as important to invest quality time in the ones you have already. After all you never know when you may need them.
- TEAM INVESTMENT – No one can run an empire on their own and no one should want to either. Motivating your team will be one if not the biggest pay offs you will ever receive when growing a recruitment business. Getting your team behind your business mission will only help to drive it further and hard work should be rewarded. Set up career development schemes and take time out of the day to get to know the people you work with and in return you will gain loyalty and appreciation from your employees.
